1. Amy Lowell is both a Modernist and an Imagistic poet. Discuss how the imagery in â€Å"September, 1918† works imagery. In â€Å"September, 1918† by Amy Lowell you can see everything that is being described. In the very first line it says â€Å"this afternoon was the colour of water falling through sunlight,† so you can imagine a rainbow. Lowell gives such a description that it allows you to see every line. She even describes that the â€Å"two little boys, lying flat on their faces,† so that you can actually see these 2 small boys under the tree lying on their stomachs. Every line she gives words that allow you to picture it in your mind, which allows your imagination to be just as involved as your eyes reading the words. 2. What is the situation in â€Å"The Death of the Hired Man†? What is home? How do the characters, Mary and Warren, define home? Do you agree with Mary or Warren? Do we deserve a home or do we have to earn it? In the poem â€Å"The Death of the Hired Man† by Robert Frost we see that a hired worker had abandoned his employers during a time of need. Salis worked for the couple, Mary and Warren, but when he received an offer for more money left the couple to go to another job. From the poem we find that Salis has become ill and is close to the end of his life, so he has returned to Warren and Mary’s farm wanting to make things right and feeling at home there.
